Family Engagement

Family Engagement

Every student in the Barrow County School System should have a strong support system that values and encourages educational achievement and there is no one who can support this effort better than parents.

BE A BARROW BOLD PARENT

Family Engagement is the participation of parents and family members in regular and meaningful communication involving student academic learning and other school activities, including ensuring:

  • That parents play an integral role in assisting their child’s learning.
  • That parents are encouraged to be actively involved in their child’s education.
  • That parents are full partners in their child’s education and are included, as appropriate, in decision-making, advisory committees, and school governances to assist in the education of their child and school leadership.
  • The carrying out of other activities, such as those described in Section 1116 of the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA).

As Director of Federal Programs, Amy Wright manages Title I, Title II, Title IV, Consolidated Funds and ESSR. She also supports leaders in utilizing data to drive their planning and support for student success through school improvement plans. Her role also involves monitoring federal program requirements, budgets and maintaining compliance, along with working with the Georgia Department of Education, Cognia, and the Governor’s Office of Student Achievement.

“Educators remind students to keep trying and learning, yet we tend to forget that for ourselves. We must model for children what we expect. Growth is the result of learning, so school improvement is the path. I want to help schools keep that path open and accessible for all students and teachers.”

Amy grew up in Augusta, Georgia. She has 18 years in education. Many of those years were spent as Assistant Principal at Gum Spring Elementary in Jackson County. She received her Bachelor of Science in Early Childhood Education and Master of Education in Instructional Technology for Design and Development from the University of Georgia. She also earned her Education Specialist in School Leadership from North Georgia College and State University. She and her husband, David, have two children, Emerson and Madux. Their family also includes three beloved dogs and ChewBecca, their cat.
