    AUTOMOTIVE TECHNOLOGY

Sims Academy students are able to build a strong foundation for their careers in the automobile industry through our dual enrollment partnership with Lanier Technical College. In this program, highly qualified instructors from Lanier Technical College teach students in the Career and Technical Education programs available to students through Sims Academy.

Automotive service involves inspecting, fixing, and maintaining various components that keep a car working properly, including the engine, brakes, steering, suspension, electrical systems, tires, and heating and air conditioning. Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) is the national organization that administers the ASE Certification that all auto technicians must pass to work in the industry.

An auto technician performs diagnostics, often using computerized equipment to identify the problem. You will learn basic maintenance skills like replacing tires, replacing worn brake pads, and changing engine oil. You will also learn to pinpoint major issues with the engine, transmission, brakes, and other critical parts.

This career is for you if you have an attention for detail, strong eye-hand coordination, and enjoy solving problems.

    CERTIFICATION INFORMATION

This program prepares graduates to receive two Technical Certificates of Credit (TCCs) from Lanier Technical College, which qualify them to work as automotive technicians:

    • Auto Electrical Technician
    • Auto Engine Performance

These courses will also provide students with a jumpstart to their future diploma or degree-level studies.
