    Culinary Arts

    Sims Academy students are able to build a strong foundation for their culinary careers through our dual enrollment partnership with Lanier Technical College. In this program, highly qualified instructors from Lanier Technical College teach students in the Career and Technical Education programs available to students through Sims Academy.

    The Culinary Arts program prepares students for employment within many facets of the food service industry. Students will obtain technical skills training, focusing on food preparation, sanitation, nutrition, marketing, catering, management fundamentals, and work ethics.

    The Prep Cook technical certificate of credit provides skills for entry into the food services preparation area as a prep cook. Topics include food services history, safety and sanitation, purchasing and food control, nutrition and menu development and design, along with the principles of cooking. Students who complete this certificate are positioned to earn several additional certificates that lead to a diploma or degree in Culinary Arts.

    Certification Information

    This program prepares graduates to receive a Technical Certificates of Credit (TCC) from Lanier Technical College, which qualifies them to work in this field:

    • Prep Cook Certificate

    These courses will also provide students with a jumpstart to their future diploma or degree-level studies.

    Marketing Principles is the foundational course for the Marketing and Management, Fashion Merchandising and Buying, and Marketing Communications and Promotion Pathways. Marketing Principles addresses all the ways in which marketing satisfies consumer and business needs and wants for products and services. Students develop a basic understanding of Employability, Foundational and Business Administration skills, Economics, Entrepreneurship, Financial Analysis, Human Resources Management, Information Management, Marketing, Operations, Professional Development, Strategic Management, and Global Marketing strategies.

    This course introduces the student to the major segments of the Sports and Entertainment Industry and the social and economic impact the industry has on the local, state, national, and global economies. The products and services offered to consumers and the impact of marketing on these products and services are examined. What is FCCLA? Family , Career, & Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) is the student organization which accompanies the Family and Consumer Science courses. FCCLA is a community service-oriented organization that builds leadership qualities, promotes teamwork, and encourages family values.
