Weather Watch: No Jan. 31 Activities

We are closely monitoring the next round of winter weather expected this weekend for our area. Based on the forecast and after consulting with local emergency teams, all extra-curricular activities for Saturday, Jan. 31, have been canceled.

Any decision concerning our Monday school schedule will be shared with families no later than Sunday evening through email/text messages, our websites, social media, and local media stations. If you are not receiving our direct messages, please check your contact information in the Parent Portal.

Process & Feedback

Feedback Welcome

As a school system, we always welcome feedback from parents and families. If you'd like to share your ideas or concerns, here are three options for how to reach out to us. If you have a complaint to submit, please be sure to review and follow the proper channel in our Resolution Process.

  • Principals are the leader of their school. They can help sort our individual and personal issues that you might be encountering. They can also help answer questions that you might have related to instruction or operations of the school. You can find your child's principal on our school listings page. Please email them and they'd be happy to help.  

    As a charter system, each school has a school governance team which is comprised of parents, community members, teachers and school leaders. They meet throughout the year to review and discuss important topics and make decisions for the school. You can learn more about SGTs here.

  • The Barrow County Board of Education is the governing body of the Barrow County School System. Each of the nine members are elected and serve a four-year term; six members are elected by district and three members are at-large seats. Board members represent the families located within their geographic district. When you would like to share your position on a topic, please reach out to your board member to share your thoughts. You can find out who your representative is and how to contact them on this page of our website.

  • Board of Education meetings are typically held the first Tuesday of each month beginning at 6 p.m. in the Board Room of the Professional Development Center Building located at 179 West Athens Street in Winder. Board work sessions are typically held the last Tuesday of every month.

    To request to appear before the Barrow County Board of Education, this form must be filled out completely and submitted to the Superintendent's Office no later than Noon on the Thursday before the regularly scheduled Board of Education Meeting.
